SEATTLE – October 1, 2007 – Earth Class Mail™, a global service that enables posts and enterprises to manage and deliver postal mail online securely, will be showcased as a featured solution provider in the Microsoft exhibit at Post Expo 2007 October 2-4, in Barcelona, Spain.
“Earth Class Mail enables postal operators to play a central role in the future of communications, which is a future bridging the physical and electronic world,” said Maxim Lesur, Worldwide Postal Industry Managing Director, Microsoft Corporation. “The company’s technologies facilitate Microsoft’s vision of the secure digital delivery of postal mail. The savings in time, money, and to our environment are significant and allows the business models to evolve to a receiver-pays model,” Lesur added.
Other participants within the Microsoft exhibit include Accenture, Correos, Iconics, Quintiq, CSS and Poste Italiane.
Nearly 200 exhibitors from at least 90 countries and more than 4,000 people are expected to attend the three-day 11th International Postal Technology Exhibition and Congress.
“We will be showing postal operators new technologies to help them transition from expensive logistics in the service of declining markets to the Internet era, where they can not only survive but prosper by offering ‘inside the envelope’ services, such as scanning content, and by competing with online giants for advertising dollars,” said Ron Wiener, CEO of Earth Class Mail Corporation. “With the new Microsoft .Net-based platform we are unveiling in Barcelona, we are able to scale our existing service for use by posts and enterprises alike, and to integrate with key software applications for ease of use.”
“Our ultimate goal is to help postal operators earn more revenue from advertisers and the first-ever revenue from mail recipients. It’s a very exciting time,” added Wiener. Benefits to enterprise clients using the service today include increased mobility for traveling employees; facilitation of the remote worker or “hoteling” trend that reduces real estate, construction and leasing costs; and lifetime document management savings resulting from early digitization of expensive-to-manage paper.
The company’s Megasorter™ sortation system is a revolutionary addition to the Earth Class Mail web services platform, allowing posts to sort (at far less cost than existing sortation systems), store, and retrieve mail recipients’ postal mail for all operations. The Megasorter can even be used independently as a 21st-century improvement to current mail sorter technology, allowing postal operators to compete on a national and even international level by reducing sortation labor costs by 70%.
Earth Class Mail is available as an outsourced service or as a software-as-a-service platform that can be licensed by posts and large enterprises. Both sides of incoming envelopes are presented securely via the Internet in high-resolution color. The customer then chooses whether to have each piece of mail securely opened and scanned, shredded, recycled, transferred elsewhere, or forward-shipped. Government studies have shown that less than 20% of postal mail gets recycled. Earth Class Mail customers are already recycling 94% of their mail.
